A lighting management system is the software a municipality uses to control, monitor and analyse its street lighting instead of running it on fixed switching times. What a lighting management system changes day to day

Conventionally switched lighting knows two states: on and off, driven by a photocell or a time switch in the cabinet. If you want to know whether a luminaire has failed, you find out through a resident report or the next inspection round. Any adjustment means a site visit.

With a lighting management system that work moves into the office. Dimming profiles are changed in the interface, a failure reports itself, and operating data is available per light point. That changes not only energy consumption but above all how the operating team works.

Sensor-based and adaptive control

Beyond calendar profiles, lighting can respond to actual use. The EnvioLux Sense Kit provides camera-free radar sensing at the light point. The management platform processes those events and raises the affected luminaire, plus defined neighbouring luminaires, for a set period.

The benefit lies in the combination: the base light stays predictable, and the increase happens only where it is needed. How strong and how far it reaches is defined in the control concept rather than left to chance.

Data protection in operation

The sensing is camera free. It registers that something is moving, not who is moving. Adaptive scenarios can therefore be implemented without processing personal data. The platform is hosted in Germany.

Commissioning and assignment

The practical effort of a lighting management system lies less in the software than in the assignment: every node has to be mapped to the correct light point, street and group. Only then are analyses and group commands dependable.

We carry out that mapping as part of delivery. The group structure follows the logic of the organisation, meaning streets, neighbourhoods or areas of responsibility, rather than only the historical circuit layout.

Frequently asked questions about lighting management

Do we need a node for every luminaire?
For individual control, yes, because control happens at the light point. The system luminaire already includes a node; existing LED luminaires are retrofitted with one.
Is a separate control cable required?
No. Nodes communicate wirelessly through gateways, so no additional cable is laid in the street.
Can several teams work in the system?
Yes. Access and permissions can be assigned so that, for example, the depot, the utility and the administration have different views and authority.
What happens if connectivity is lost?
The stored profiles keep running at the light point, so lighting stays in operation. Missing connections become visible in the system and can be followed up.
